This was a quick digital painting focusing on the lighting and mood I wanted to create for this cabin. I imagined Ahab at this point has become very isolated and obsessed with the white whale so he has neglected his own space and filled it with images of the whale. I also learned while doing research for this project that many wooden ships use acrylic prisms that are built into the deck to allow light into the lower quarters. This is mainly due to the fact that they want to reduce using fire as much as possible while on a wooden ship. Makes sense.So I decided that would be a great way to give an isolated light source in a specific area, in this case, his desk. In the foreground I included a little bit of decoration to give more information of who this is. I decided on a whale tooth featuring some scrimshaw art of a whaling ship in the ocean.
